Hey Question for you - Say I have started to communicate with a seller on Alibaba about a certain product and they are willing to send me a sample. How much can I expect to pay for shipping - freight vs. air? Is there a more preferable method? Is there an appropriate vs. inappropriate time to share my address with them? I have a product that i import from China. The concept is different for what it really is. I went trough Alibaba. I have a great supplier. We communicate every day. I started out with a sample sample. Then 10 units and now i get 100+ a month. All the advice the author wrote, is spot on. Follow the steps and you can't go wrong! Take action. I am a woman owned business and English is not my first language, it was not difficult to talk to the Chinese. They are very smart and understand English. .. so you know. :')

I'm not too experienced with taxing, but basically they take 3.4% of the value of your products that you import and then they make you pay a fee - hold it for a day or two - once you pay the delivery company sends it to you. Hi Natalie It is a complicated thing about certification there, since my company ever worked for some LED importers in US to take care of the quality control in Shenzhen China, i have to share with some common tricks there: 1, >80% of the suppliers you meet on Alibaba or somewhere else are actually traders instead factories. 2, >90% may tell you they get their own UL or DLC certification (or Energy star), but actually very few of them (around 5%) has real certification. 3, many factories has perfect sample for applying the certification or getting an order approved, but when mass production ,they still can use different components, such as the different brand LED chips,or same brand but different efficiency class of the SMD, the most important thing is the AC driver, it has too much cost difference by using different components (example a 18W LED tube, the driver's cost can be 0.5USD to 2USD/pcs), and the power driver is always the 1st parts get blew out. Solutions to above problems: 1, To request their certification code, and confirm it is real while checking UL or DLC official website. 2, Do sample testing before ordering or you can hire some labs there to do a simple test , and seal the approved sample as golden sample. 3, To have during production inspection or pre-shipment inspection before paying the balance payment(usually 70%). and check the inspection company's old report evaluate their capability in LED industry.
